Back on Track

Today is one of those days when you have this awesome plan of how things will be, but in the end life had a different course. I find it hard when I've made this great To-Do List, but can't work on it till 7pm because other things are pulling at me.

Photobucket

It's also kinda sad around these parts since my husband is leaving us for 3 days on a business trip. I usually go with him, but we decided that I was gonna stay behind this time and take a break from travel. So this will be the longest he has been away from us since before we were married. I don't know about other people, but I love my family to be with me. I know we'll do great and will be fine, but it does make things a little sad. He's so cute, he did all the grocery shopping so that it would last us until he comes back. He knows that if I step into a store I'll come out with and empty bank account.

I decided that it was high time Toddler and I got back into our schedule of morning adventures, afternoon naps, evening dinners and work at night. We went to the river for a nice walk. It was nice, but it was also interesting. Getting somewhere with Toddler takes a LONG time. He has to jump every puddle, touch every stick and pick up every leaf.

I wish I was the kind of mom that patiently let their kid explore their world, but I'm not and there are only so many things you can take pictures of in the winter while Toddler is splashing in a puddle.

Speaking of splashing guess who face planted into a puddle of mud?

I'm glad he had fun and I'm 100% sure he did because been napping since 1pm and it's almost 5pm!

My thought have been working around who I am as an artist. What's my style? What do I like to do and so on. I'm glad I'm figuring things out and glad that I know what God wants me to do. There might be some artistic posts here and there or a mix of personal and artistic as I have so many things I'd like to accomplish. Here's my artist images for the day. They portray my mood.

Barney - Everett Portrait Photographer

After a some days of wind storms and lots of rain I was happy to find that Friday was nice and sunny.

When I get a call from a client that I've never met I have a good sense of where the photo-shoot location should be, so when Barney called me for some headshots I knew that Seattle was the perfect location for some professional shots.

I love picking places just right for that client. It does require a lot of listening to my intuition and then following through. Of course there are times when I don't and then wished that I had.

Barney has been my most mature client thus far, but he wonderful to work with. One thing that he told me was smiling naturally didn't come easy to him in an image. I found that hard to believe because when he smiled his eye just light up like sapphires. He also reminded me of Anthony Hopkins in some ways.

Pursuit 31 - Portland Retreat

I had the opportunity of spending 2 days with some incredible ladies that I know like to call my friends! I haven't met them before this, but we are all part of a beautiful community of Christian Photographers called Pursuit 31.

The very inspiring woman who started this community is Karen Stott. Her story is incredible of how she got to the place where she was lead to start this community.

We started the morning with some prayer, worship and God time. It was something that I have been needing. The next day was spent shooting the beautiful inspirational shoot.

There is so much more, but it seems like I won't be able to share my heart since I need to share myself with my family this evening, but I hope that you do enjoy the images taken from this great retreat.

Kosice, Slovakia

My of my favorite places to go in Slovakia is Kosice. It was different coming there in the winter verses the summer, but it was still so beautiful.

When in Kosice I fell like I'm in the heart of Europe. There is a beautiful cathedral that is huge and it's very old. I also love the Oprah house with it's beautiful singing fountain that you can play in during the warm summers. My favorite ice cream parlor is walking distance from Stara Mama's flat. In the summer the square is filled with outdoor dinning and in the winter is the Christmas Bazaar with lots of hot wine.

I guess when I'm in Kosice I feel like I belong there where as in Nitra I just feel like I'm home since it's where my in-laws live. There's a big difference between these two cities and one being Kosice is much bigger. It's the second biggest city in Slovakia Bratislava being the first.

While we were in Kosice we got to visit yet another castle called, "The beautiful Hill" if I remember right. I'm really excited to go back to Slovakia and hopefully visit Italy again, but in the summer this time. They have warm and beautiful summers except for the tics.

Newborn Elliana - Everett Maternity and Newborn Photographer

I won't lie, newborn shoots require some patience and I am happy to say that with these little babies I have all the patience in the world.

I had the privilege and honor of taking pictures of Elliana. She belongs to a friend of mine whom I adore and look up to in many ways. Their family now has three beautiful girls.

What makes me laugh the most at these shoots is that the babies have a tough time falling asleep when I'm around. This is my last time I'm saying it because I'm only going to speak positive. "When newborns are around me they can't help, but sleep for hours!" There, that's much better.

Despite Elliana having a tough time going into a milk coma I did manage to get some adorable shots of her.

Stara Mama

While in Slovakia over the Holidays we got to stay with Stara Mama (Hubby's grandma). I've been to her house once when I was still pregnant with Augustin. The first time I noticed how neat and cute her place was, but didn't have time to really explore the little details of the way everything was designed.

If Holly Becker from Decor8 got to see the place I think she would have approved. Vintage lovers would flock to that little apartment in Koice. It's amazing of how the styles have made a full circle.

Here are some of the details of her place.

Something Daring

If you know me you know that I highly dislike being cold. I'm the kind of girl that thrives in 90 degree weather and loves summer to it's fullest. This week I discovered that I love snow just as much as I love summer.

We've had the most snow I've seen since I was a little girl and these past two weeks have been one of the most creative weeks I've had in a long time. So since Sunday I've had a vision in my head of a photo-shoot in the snow. Not just any photo-shoot though, a daring one.

Everyone was stuck at home under a foot of snow, which left me to carry out the vision that I had all by myself. Honestly it was a huge struggle to get my butt out in the snow. I almost didn't do it, but knew that if I didn't I would regret it for a very long time.

So out I went in a short dress, boots without socks and my snowsuit to one of my photo-shoot locations that is walking distance from my house. I wish I would have thought this thing threw because when I got there and did a couple of test shots I realized that focusing the camera, getting out of my boots and snowsuit, running to pose and then finally posing all within 10 seconds of the self timer is rather impossible. I have some very interesting outtakes as I danced around taking my boots and suit off.

Was it cold? You don't even know, but I was burning with a vision that kept me warm and it was so very much worth it! I also want my clients to know that I make myself do crazy things too for that perfect shot.

Like it or not I travel

It's 9am and I'm sitting in an airplane on my way to Santa Clara, CA. Didn't I just get back from a month long trip to Europe on Monday? Yes, yes I did. I still find myself in an airplane right now on my way to my beloved Cali.

I wish I could say my trip is specifically for pleasure, but indeed it is not. We are going on a business trip which we take four trips throughout the length of a year. The sad part is I hear I will be missing watching the snow fall. I plan to fully enjoy the sunshine to compensate for my loss.

I've always wanted to be a traveler. It looked to fun, interesting and like an eventful lifestyle. I honestly didn't think I'd actually fall into that category and become one. Traveling is all the things I thought it would be and more. I've had an unpacked suitcase in my bedroom since October. It seems pointless to unpack since I'll be flying sooner then later. I also realized I don't like flying at all. I've had more panic attacks in the air then not. I of course have figured out what triggers them and am able to find my peace in God. Airports themselves are not that fun. These things I have to get over, every single one of them. Like it or not I'm a frequent traveler and the travel time will just increase.

I pray that I get used to begin in the air and that I don't count down the minutes until our plane will be on the ground again asking the flight attendants , "Are we descending yet?", in Jesus' name, amen!

I'm inspired

Since we've gotten home I haven't had much time to work on anything. Toddler and I go to bed at 1 or 7pm and get up at 2 or 4am. He's having a hard time adjusting back to the time shift.

Today has been the first day that I couldn't resist inspiration when it came knocking at my door. I have SO many other things to do, which includes catching up on editing, but I couldn't let this moment go. I wish that I had more moments like this to seize.

With that said here is my valentines day inspired little craft.  I'm kinda in love with it.

Oh and thank you to my sister-in-law for the yummy heart chocolates, they are the source of much inspiration for me.
