My family went organic with some green to it!
For some time now Hubby & I have been discussing about going Green in our house. We never did anything, but ponder that thought until Sunday.
For the past months I've been running to information about how toxic of a world we live in. It's in our clothes, food, furniture among other things. It's something that no one can avoid, but it is something I can limit in my house.
It's going to be a slow process because there is so much of it around us that fixing it all at once can out a dent in anyone's pocket.
Let's start with the meat we eat. On Saturday I found out about Sodium Nitrate. Upon some research I can garentee you that my family will no longer have anything that contains it unless we are staying as guest in someone else's home.
Most people know about BPA, High Fructose Corn Syrup & MSG to name a few, but the funny thing is no one does anything about it. I didn't want to be one of those people anymore.
We got rid of every plastic toys Babers owned and replaced it with safer plastic or wooden toys. He needs to learn how to play with them since they dont grab at his attention with noise & lights.
My world is much quieter and peaceful. When we play we are truly interacting & not distracted.
Today I went on the scale to check my weight. Since I had Baber my goal is to 100 lbs. I went from 92 lbs shortly after he was born and today I was shocked! I'm a whopping 97.9 lbs! That's the highest I've been in a long time. I'm honestly thinking it's because I eliminated to much bad stuff from my diet and the only unhealthy thing I've consumed these past two weeks is cane sugar in my tea.
Aside from all this talk about food and chemicals, today was the first day of summer!
We celebrated with a family bike ride, our first one as a whole family too. Now that we have a trailer for Augustin I'll be able to get some healthy exercise in without leaving him behind. Its perfect for going to picnics in the park.
Then we had dinner outside with some incredible yummy food! We eat organic strawberry ice cream with fresh raspberries, which tasted completely differently then the usual ice cream with high fructose corn syrup. I was rather surprised in the taste difference.
I made fresh raspberry lemonade to go with our dinner of chicken, brown rice and zucchini. A perfect balance!
It's actually rather easier for me to eat healthier when I know I get my food from local organic farms and the fact that I know my body is getting good things put in it to function at its best. I also feel responsible as a wife and mother to make sure my family is taken care of and at their healthiest.
